We are currently working on a video and still production of the British Mine Sweeper Katherene. It was scuttled off the coast of Ocho Rios, Jamaica in roughly 1992 (some research still pending). We dove it shortly after it went down and have been back chronicling her aging every five years since. The Katherene is one of the most popular shallow wrecks in the area and because there are many local resorts nearby, it sees scores of divers every week. Many of these divers are resort certified customers who at times because of their inexperience use the wreck to support their buoyancy. The wreck has slowly attracted a bit of sea life as any artificial reef, but is also is taking a lot of damage from the tourists. Our next expedition to the site will be in July, 2008. |
